Notes: Abstract A gel is a kind of water-swellable but water-insoluble, crosslinked polymer. Some kinds of gels can respond to external temperature changes. This specific property is useful in biomedical and other technological fields. In this paper the synthesis of a novel, thermosensitive gel by the copolymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide or N,N- diethylacrylamide with 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxy silane (MPTMS) is reported. The formation of the gel is caused through the interaction of MPTMS under acidic condition. This thermosensitive gel can deswell and reswell quickly in response to the external temperature changes, this behavior probably being due to the heterogeneous structure of the gel produced. This fast-response gel may be useful both in biomedical and biotechnological fields.

Notes: Abstract The Gamow-Teller (GT)β + -decay probability is estimated for three neutron-deficientN=Z nuclei, 36 72 Kr36, 38 76 Sr38, and 40 80 Zr40, using a quasiparticle Tamm-Dancoff approximation (TDA) based on a Skyrme-type deformed Hartree-Fock (HF) calculation. The distribution of the GT strength is found to depend sensitively on the nuclear shape, namely, a spherical shape or a prolate or an oblate deformation of the obtained HF minima. At the shape of the lowest HF minimum about a half of the calculated total GT strength lies below the ground state of thoseN=Z mother nuclei, and there seems to be a good chance to observeβ-delayed proton emission.

Notes: Abstract In this paper we argue that the PSR B 1849+00 and SNR G33.6+0.1 are possibly associated, because (1) there is only a small probability of chance superposition in this sky region; (2) although the estimates of the distance and the age of the two objects contain a high degree of uncertainty, they are not inconsistent; (3) the implied transverse velocity of the pulsar is also quite reasonable according to the measured distribution of pulsar velocities. The association could be verified by measuring the proper motion of PSR B 1849+00, which is estimated to be about 10 mas·yr−1.

Notes: Abstract Simulating the one-particle spectra of the infinite-well potential by a model, we study the symmetry and the shell-structure of octupole deformations as well as the possible occurrence of octupole (and quadrupole) instabilities. Among various types of octupole deformations investigated theY 32-type deformation is found to have a strong shell-structure as well as a very interesting symmetry which leads to the occurrence of highly-degenerate single-particle levels. One particle spectra of the octupole-coupled two-level model (withl andl + 3) are analytically studied in the limit of large angular-momentum,l.

Notes: Abstract Uniform hematite particles with an average size of 400 Å were prepared for reducing the influence of the particle-size distribution on the measurement of the Morin temperature. A series of Mössbauer spectra at different temperatures have been recorded. The Morin transition occurs at 216 K for sample B coated with a surfactant-oleic acid, and it occurs at 192 K for uncoated sample A. The temperature intervals in the region of the spin flip are almost the same for both samples. These results show that aT m shift could arise from surface effects such as spin pinning directly induced by a surfactant, and that the distortion produces restriction not only on the top few layers, but also on the whole volume of the particle.
