Notes:
Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) toxins in shellfish were analyzed and quantified using both a high pressure liquid chromatographic (HPLC) technique and the standard AOAC mouse bioassay. Good correlation between the two assays was obtained at or below the limit of 80 μg toxin/100g, while at higher levels of toxicity, the HPLC technique tended to underestimate total toxicity slightly. Advantages and disadvantages of both techniques are discussed.
