    Notes: Abstract Bronchial biopsies were studied in inhabitants from 3 ecologically contrasting regions in the long term after exposure to radiation. It is established that in bronchial biopsies diffuse atrophy of the mucous membrane is prevalent in the bronchial part of the lungs in an ecologically unfavorable region. Under these conditions a marked decrease of metabolic and proliferative reactions is shown in cell populations of the bronchial wall, as is evident from the data of radioautographyin vitro and stereological analysis.

    Notes: Abstract The gastric wall of field-mice living in three ecologically unfavorable regions of the Altai is studied. A key role of dystrophic and atrophic changes in the mucous and keratinized zones of the gastric lining and the absence of a pronounced inflammatory-cellular component are demonstrated. It is noted that numerous ecological factors modulating each other's effects in time and intensity hamper the interpretation of changes occurring in the biosystems where they operate.

    Notes: Abstract The principal forms of acute cardiomyocyte damage of metabolic and ischemic genesis are accompanied by changes in the contractile apparatus, which is reflected in double refraction of myofibrils. Thus, polarization microscopy is the most sensitive method allowing one to detect the early stages of cardiomyocyte damage. Individual types of cardiomyocyte lesions are identified on the basis of parallel histological studies and polarization and electron microscopy of prenecrotic alterations and myocardial infarction using experimental and autopsy material. They are: I, II, and III degree myofibrillar contracture, intracellular myocytolysis, primary lumpy degradation of myofibrils, and cytolysis. These types of damage form the morphological basis of acute myocardial pathology with a possible outcome of coagulative or colliquative necrosis.

    Notes: Abstract We studied ultrastructure of cardiomyocytes of W/SSM rats with inherited hypertrophic cardiomyopathy bred from Wistar rats by hypersensitivity to cataractogenic action of high galactose doses. The observed dynamics of quantitative and qualitative changes in the main sarcoplasmic organelles reflects general principles of spatial and temporal reorganization of cardiac muscle cells induced by hypertrophy of different genesis.

    Notes: Abstract Hypertrophy, atrophy, and dystrophy, which reflect the balance between alterative and compensatory-adaptive processes at all levels of structural organization, predominate among structural changes in W/SSM rats with metabolic myopathy under conditions of progressive chronic disorders of cellular homeostasis. Primary universal reactions of striated muscles to damage (myofibril contractures and intracellular myocytolysis) are observed at the ultrastructural level. Increased incidence of focal changes and the time course of morphological and stereological parameters in a constantly functioning organ (diaphragm) indicate that working muscle fibers are most susceptible to injury.
