Notes: Abstract SupposeK ⊂ IsoH n is a geometrically finite non-elementary Kleinian group or an elementary Kleinian group with two fixed points at infinity, andg ∈ IsoH n is a Möbius transformation. ThengKg −1 ⊂K implies thatgKg −1=K.

Notes: Abstract The magnetic susceptibility of MgCu 2 O 3 powder was measured between 0.2 K and 800 K. The results above TN can be fitted by a Curie–Weiss law plus a one-dimensional (1 — d) antiferromagnetic susceptibility and a constant susceptibility. Below TN the magnetic susceptibility has the large contribution from the paramagnetic impurity of free Cu 2+ ions in the compound. When we add Zn 2+ ions in the compound the Néel temperature decreases. On the other hand the Co doped MgCu 2 O 3 enhance the Néel temperature. Only a small number of Co ions changes the magnetic property of MgCu 2 O 3 drastically.

Notes: Abstract Contortrostatin, a 13.5 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric polypeptide possessing an Arg–Gly–Asp sequence, was isolated from venom of the southern copperhead snake. Daily injection of contortrostatin into the primary tumor of human breast cancer MDA-MB-435 carried in nude mice significantly inhibited tumor growth and neovascularization of the tumor tissue. On the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane, contortrostatin inhibited angiogenesis induced by MDA-MB-435 cells, basic fibroblast growth factor, and vascular endothelial growth factor. In addition, contortrostatin effectively blocked adhesion of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) to immobilized vitronectin and significantly inhibited invasion of HUVEC through a Matrigel barrier. Competitive binding assays and adhesion assays with different integrin antibodies suggested that integrin αvβ3 is a binding site for contortrostatin on vascular endothelial cells. Detachment of HUVEC from vitronectin by contortrostatin induced apoptosis. HUVEC adhered and spread well on immobilized contortrostatin without undergoing apoptosis, suggesting that it is the inhibition of adhesion and spreading of HUVEC on extracellular matrix proteins, rather than binding of contortrostatin to integrins per se, that triggers apoptosis. We conclude that contortrostatin binds to αvβ3, and interferes with the anchorage-dependent survival mechanism of the vascular endothelial cells, and the mobility of the cells. The consequent suppression of angiogenesis is an important component of the antineoplastic activity of contortrostatin.

Notes: Abstract Analyses of inelastic fracture have mainly followed two directions. One is crack-tip-field analysis in strain-hardening materials (e.g., the HRR solution). The other is whole field analysis in non-hardening materials (e.g., McClintock's slip-line approach). In this paper, a theoretical approach that combines the two directions is presented to account for large crack growth. As an example, plane strain mode I fully plastic crack growth in a single-edge-cracked-specimen under extension is analyzed. The incremental analysis based on the deformed configuration is developed for large crack growth in strain-hardening materials. A kinematically admissible displacement increment field with crack-tip singularity is first constructed in a presumed symmetrical triangular deformation zone extending from the crack tip to the back flank of the ligament (whole field). Then the size of the deformation zone is determined by minimizing the total force in each incremental step. The strain histories of all material points in the ligament are traced and a fracture criterion based on the hole growth theory is applied. The comparisons between the present study and the experiments existing in the literature show the validity of the present approach.
