    Notizen: The effect of Joule heating anneals, carried out with the simultaneous application of a mechanical stress (stress-current annealing), on the anisotropy and magnetostriction of Fe73.5Cu1Ta3Si13.5B9 amorphous samples is investigated. As a result of these thermal treatments an uniaxial in-plane magnetic anisotropy, characterized by the constant Kσ, was induced in the samples. The dependence of Kσ on the annealing temperature shows a maximum around 450 °C which can be connected to the first stages of the crystallization process. From the measurement of the stress dependence of the magnetization work Wm, the magnetostriction constant λs of the as-quenched and thermally treated samples was also evaluated. The results obtained show how the presence of two phases in the partially crystallized material determines the magnetoelastic behavior of these samples.

    Notizen: Results are presented on the microstructure and magnetic properties of samples obtained by crystallization of amorphous films of composition Co100−xPx (10〈x〈25). Microstructural studies by means of scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffractometry, as well as magnetic measurements showed the presence of a well-defined texture in the cobalt crystallites of samples of composition given by x〈21, the easy axis direction of the amorphous samples being preserved during the crystallization. In these samples the thermal dependence of the coercive and anisotropy fields and of the remanence was studied. The crystallization product of samples of composition given by x(approximately-greater-than)21 is characterized by the presence of cobalt crystallites with random easy axes distribution. The polarizing effect of the magnetization was evidenced through the correlation between the two different types of microstructure and the presence or absence of magnetic order during the crystallization of the samples.

    Notizen: Stereotaxic lesions of the nucleus basalis magnocellularis were made unilaterally in male Wistar rats with either kainic or ibotenic acid, using the contralateral side as control. Differences in behavior, body weight, and survival were observed between the kainic and ibotenic acid-treated rats. One week after surgery, the rats were sacrificed and the effect of the lesions on choline acetyltransferase activity was measured in brain cortex homogenate, synaptosomes, and capillaries. In kainic acid-lesioned rats, choline acetyltransferase activity decreased in homogenate and synaptosomes of the ipsilateral side with respect to that of the contralateral side; but the ibotenic acid lesion, which also reduced the ipsilateral choline acetyltransferase activity in homogenate, showed a rather different effect on the enzymatic activity of the synaptosomes. There were also differences between the effect of kainic and ibotenic acid lesions on choline acetyltransferase activity in the capillaries of the ipsilateral side with respect to that of the contralateral one. However, capillary choline acetyltransferase activity of the treated rats was in both sides three times higher than that of unoperated rats.

    Notizen: Experimental results are reported on the torsion dependence of bistability of CoSiB amorphous alloys. Switching field and remanence magnetization are measured with applied torsion up to 20π rad/m for as-quenched wire as well as for stress-annealed wire, with and without preannealing. Measurements are performed both for Mz-Hz and Mz-Hφ hysteresis loop. The results show that the bistability of Co-rich amorphous wire strongly depends on the torsion-induced helical anisotropy.

    Notizen: Samples containing Fe nanoparticles dispersed in SiO2 were prepared by high energy ball milling. We have studied the variation with the milling time of both the saturation magnetization and the coercive force of these samples. The rapid increase of coercivity with the decrease of temperature observed in the low temperature range suggested the presence of superparamagnetic particles in the samples. Nevertheless, our experimental data were in poor agreement with the well-known T1/2 law describing the coercive force of superparamagnetic particles. Coercivities as high as 540 and 850 Oe were obtained for samples with x=0.3 at room temperature and at 1.7 K, respectively. From the analysis of the temperature dependence of the saturation magnetization the spin wave stiffness constant was obtained. This quantity evidenced the enhancement of the thermal demagnetization associated with the reduction in size.

    Notizen: The dependence of the treatment parameters of the coercivity of PrNdFeB samples prepared by crystallization of melt spun amorphous precursors is investigated. The crystallization treatments were carried out at high temperatures and using very high heating rates ("flash crystallization''). From the analysis of the temperature dependence of the critical field of the samples, it is concluded that this kind of crystallization treatment leads to very fine and homogeneous microstructures which result in a significant enhancement of the hard magnetic properties.

    Notizen: The optical absorption edge of CuInSe2 and CuInS2 single crystals was measured as a function of hydrostatic pressure up to 10 GPa. In both cases the direct energy gap increases linearly with pressure at the rate of 30 and 24 meV GPa−1 for CuInSe2 and CuInS2 , respectively. From changes in the light-transmission characteristic of the samples under pressure, a structural first-order irreversible transition was observed at 7.1 GPa for CuInSe2 and 9.6 GPa for CuInS2 . Also, a new metastable semiconducting phase was formed in pressure-quenched CuInS2 samples.

    Notizen: Magnetic measurements of hysteresis loops and transverse susceptibilities have been done on as-cast iron based amorphous alloys on the surface and in the bulk of the ribbons. Bitter technique has been used to obtain the domain patterns. a-Fe78B13Si9 shows an anisotropy perpendicular to the ribbon plane with maze domain "island'' structures. The surface measurements do not detect any difference in behavior compared to the observed bulk properties. a-Fe81.5B14.5Si4 shows different behavior in the surface and in the bulk of the ribbon with a perminvar-type hysteresis loop from the surface and magnetization perpendicular to the ribbon plane with well-aligned closure domains. The analysis of the different magnetic experimental data and selective changes in the internal stresses produced by different treatments support a model of the layered character of the anisotropies in this sample with tensile stresses and in-plane anisotropy in the surface and compressive stresses and anisotropy perpendicular to the ribbon's surface in the bulk. Finally, a rough calculation shows that the thickness of the surface in-plane anisotropy region is of the order of the surface roughness.

    Notizen: The dependence of the magnetic parameters as switching field H*, coercive field Hc and reduced remanence mr, on applied tensile stress σa has been studied in current annealed amorphous wires. The switching field increases as σ 1/2a in fully relaxed samples, while in both "as-quenched'' and partially relaxed samples the σ 1/2a law holds only at high values of σa. The coercive field increases with σa in a way similar to H* and mr increases up to the saturation value. This behavior can be explained by taking into account the different magnetic regions that have been proposed for these wires.

    Notizen: The transfer of energy between the plasma and the iron anode and the evaporation of metal were taken into account in modeling a short free-burning arc in argon at atmospheric pressure. The presence of metal vapor in the plasma modifies the electrical conductivity and the radiated power and leads to arc cooling in the anode region. In return, the arc cooling modifies the rate of vaporization of the anode and thus the calculated concentration of iron vapor in the arc.
