Summary Soda-lime glass-capillary columns treated with 1M sodium hydroxide at 40–60°C for two days were employed for the gas chromatographic separation of low-boiling hydrocarbons. A 70.5 m×97 μm I.D. column produced 780,000 to 930,000 theoretical plates for early-eluting components. Use of steam-doped carrier gas improved peak shape and column efficiency. The system was successfully applied to the separation of complex mixtures.
