Notes: Abstract We report on the successful preparation of large-area high-quality YBa2Cu3O7 superconducting thin films by pulsed excimer laser ablation with a Si heater and composite scanning of laser beam and target. The Si heater, composite scanning of laser beam and target, and experiment results are described. The temperature variation of the Si heater was 〈 ±0.5% in a 45×40 mm2 area of 900–1000 °C. Films were deposited on LaAlO3 substrates 35 mm in diameter. The thin films exhibited a thickness variation of ±2.5%; the superconducting properties wereT c0=91×0.5 K andJ c= (3.3±0.7)×106 A/cm2 at 77 K and zero magnetic field.

Notes: Abstract YBa2Cu3O7 superconducting thin films were deposited onR-plane sapphire substrates with Yttria-stabilized zirconia buffer layer by laser ablation. The structure of the films was characterized by X-ray diffraction. Superconducting transitional temperatures as high as ≥90 K and critical current densities up to 2.2×106 A/cm2 (77 K) were achieved. The results of Auger depth profile showed that no obvious diffusion occurred between the substrate and the YBa2Cu3O7 thin film.

Notes: Abstract The potential energy surface (PES) of linear Ar 3 + is calculated at the MP4/6-31G* level including all single, double, triple and quadruple excitations. The results show that the PES of the linear Ar 3 + has a very flat valley along the asymmetric stretching vibration normal mode, ν3. A higher level quadratic configuration interaction calculation including single, double and triple substitutions QCISD (T) along this flat valley suggests that an asymmetric geometry energy minimum reported earlier based on MP2 [1] is due to symmetry breaking in UHF. The global minimum of the PES is found to be for the symmetric geometry atR ab =R bc =2.66±0.01 Å, which is in good agreement with the MRD-CI calculation [2] and expectations from our earlier photodissociation experiments [3]. The calculational results are compared with other theoretical calculations, and are discussed in the context of the photodissociation and dynamics of dissociation experiments conducted on Ar 3 + .

Notes: Recent DC conductivity measurements on iodine-doped full and psuedo IPNs of poly (carbonate-urethane) (PCU) and natural rubber (NR) reveal that these materials possess a modest conductivity. Both such full and pseudo IPNs (with linear NR chains) are single-phased materials if the NR is of sufficiently high molecular weight derived from Brazilian Manihot glaziovii. On iodine doping the electrical conductivity rises eight orders of magnitude of both the full IPN (to ca. 10-5S cm-1) and the pseudo IPN (to ca. 10-4 S cm-1). A simple theory based on the assumption that conduction occurs essentially along the linear NR chains, composing a percolation cluster, in the iodine-doped pseudo IPNs of PCU and NR accounts for the observed electrical conductivity dependence on temperature, iodine molality, and weight fraction of NR. As temperature decreases the DC conductivity falls and the material becomes essentially an insulator. At sufficiently low temperature (ca. 115 K) this trend reverses and the DC conductivity rises by two orders of magnitude with further decreasing temperature up to that of liquid helium. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: A number of pseudo IPNs of poly(carbonate-urethane) (PCU) and crosslinked polychloroprene (CR) have been synthesized and characterized. The single phase morphology of these novel pseudo IPNs has been confirmed by DSC measurements and electron microscopy. The room temperature electrical conductives of homopolymers and pseudo IPNs have been investigated for both undoped and iodine-doped samples. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
