1,3-Dioxa-2-stannolanes 1 are readlily activated by Lewis bases such as Bu3P and Et3N to give cycloadducts on reaction with carbon disulfide or phenyl isothiocyanate under mild conditions. In particular, bases play a characteristic role in the reaction with carbon disulfide to produce 1,3-dioxolane-2-thiones 2 in good yields, while spiro compounds 3 (1:2 adducts) are predominantly obtained in the absence of bases.
