    Notizen: A Schottky barrier theoretical model for explaining the J-V characteristic of a photoelectrochemical solar cell (PESC) has been developed considering the effect of dark current, space-charge recombination, surface states, and detailed charge transfer kinetics at the interface. Both isoenergetic charge transfer and inelastic charge transfers (via surface states) at the interface have been considered and their relative importance are discussed. The theory has been applied to explain the (a) J-V characteristic for n-GaAs/Se2−, Se2−2 junction and (b) Fermi-level pinning observed in GaAs PESC. The inelastic charge transfer via surfaces states has been shown to play an important role in deciding these characteristics.

    Notizen: Abstract Growing rats were exposed to 5 mg/L Pb,ad libitum in drinking water, and administered low or high doses of Mn and Cd intraperitoneal (i.p.) for 30 days. Some groups of animals were also administered combinations of Pb + Mn and Pb + Cd in an identical manner. Analysis of Pb, Mn, and Cd in tissue samples showed the expected dose-dependent accumulation when the metal was administered singly. However, combined treatment produced different types of metal shift in different tissues. Enhanced accumulation of all three metals in the brain, Mn in liver, Pb in kidney and Cd in testis and kidney after combined exposure may make target organs vulnerable to the toxic effects of metals, even when encountered at low concentrations. Further, the decreased levels of blood Pb after combined treatment with Cd or Mn suggests that the significance of blood Pb level as a diagnostic aid for Pb toxicity in coexposed conditions may not be of much value. Changes in the metallic distribution within the tissues after coexposure may be the result of a competition between the administered metals for common binding sites.

    Notizen: Abstract Optimality conditions and duality results are obtained for a class of control problems having a nondifferentiable term in the integrand of the objective functional. These results generalize many well-known results in optimal control theory involving differentiable functions, and also provide a relationship with certain nondifferentiable mathematical programming problems. Some extensions concerning the unified treatment of optimal control theory and continuous programming are also mentioned. Finally, a control problem containing an arbitrary norm, along with its appropriate norm, is given.
