Notes: Summary Previous investigations on calvarial fractures in infants have shown that the flexibility and displacement of the infant calvarial are not sufficient to avoid fractures as a result of fall. From a table height onto hard ground — and in special cases, fractures cannot be avoided even after falls onto softly cushioned ground. The skull fractures are located in paper-thin, transparent, single-layer bone areas without diploe. The results of previous literature were compared with investigations of the skulls of 82 infants (from neonates up to infants 14 months of age). Congenital fissures, cranioschisis, locally retarded ossification in the cranium and craniotabes are all weak points where fracture has a tendency to occur even if the impact is minor. These ossification defects are increased in the ossa parietalia, but can also be found in the os frontale or in the os occipitale. The location is not always the same but can be detected by locating the skull transparency using diaphanoscopy.

Notes: The amount of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in human lymphocytes was determined using a technique based on light emission from a bioluminescent reaction with luciferin-luciferase. The amount of ATP changed when cells were incubated in the presence of specific HLA antisera and complement. For determination of intracellular ATP a modified method was applied, which was based on reduction of extracellular ATP by the addition of ATPase. The results of titration of an anti-human lymphocyte serum using the bioluminescence assay were in agreement with the results of fluorescence vitality staining. Bioluminescent HLA-determination in 57 cell samples each tested with 5 different antisera also gave good agreement (95.8%) with the conventional method. From these experimental data the calculated ATP content per lymphocyte was 0.135 ± 0.058 pg ATP.

Notes: Raman spectra were obtained from PdO, Rh2O3 and PdRhO2 thin films formed by oxidizing foil samples. Polarization measurements allow symmetry species assignments to be made for the lines from the corundum phase of Rh2O3 and from PdRhO2, which has a delafossite structure.
