Notizen: Abstract The effect of the realistic one-body spectrum is included in calculating the average partial level density, which has been so far obtained assuming degenerate one-body spectrum and GDE for the residual interaction. We show that such partial level densities are obtained by solving the extended saddle point equations which need inputs of the realistic one-body spectrum as well as the second moment of the ensemble. It is seen that the average partial level density is expressed in a convolution form of the partial level density for realistic one-body spectrum with the distribution which describes the effect by the random residual interaction. Calculations numerically performed show the improvement over the previous results. The effect of particle escape on the level density is also investigated and turns out to be practically negligible in precompound reactions.

Notizen: Abstract Study of the nuclear second moments, important inputs to pre-equilibrium reaction theories, is extended to residual interactions of finite range. The interactions are assumed to have general spin and isospin dependence. The second moments are found to be always positive definite for commonly used values of the interaction parameters. They seem to support the strong coupling limit of the pre-equilibrium reaction theory by Nishioka et al. [1], which would imply the modification of the phenomenological model used in analyzing experimental data. As an application of the second moments, it is also investigated how the nuclear level densities change with the parameter values of the residual interaction. The results show the important role of the residual interaction especially in the low energy region, which may greatly improve the agreement with experimental data at thermal neutron resonances.

Notizen: Abstract The nuclear second moments, important inputs to pre-equilibrium reaction theories, are evaluated by assuming a simple model. The positive definite nature of the second moments is examined, and the nuclear level densities are calculated using positive definite second moments.

Notizen: Summary We sought to clarify whether or not hyperlipoproteinemia induces auditory dysfunction. In so doing, we studied the general states and cochlear pathologies of guinea pigs after the administration of a hyperlipid diet for 3 months. Serum biochemistries indicated marked elevations of cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol and low density lipoprotein (LDL) levels. An increased auditory threshold varying from 10 to 20 dB was observed in 40% of the guinea pigs using auditory brainstem responses. Histochemical study of the inner ear revealed variations in lipid metabolism and partial disorders of the outer hair cells. Electron microscopic observations showed vacuolar and parenchymal protrusions on the surfaces of the stria vascularis and Corti's organ, and vacuolar degeneration was seen around the capillary vessels of the vascular stria. Our data has shown that the auditory dysfunction present in the inner ear was less marked than were the morphological changes seen. Our findings suggest that other factors besides hyperlipoproteinemia are involved in the development of severe auditory damage.
