Summary Hydrous titanium oxide (HTiO), prepared under varying conditions of precipitation, has been studied for its anion exchange behaviour. Its chemical and thermal stability has been examined. The stoichiometry of uptake for Cl− has been investigated using a36Cl radiotracer and the regeneration power of the exchanger checked. Distribution coefficients for halides and polyvalent anions have been determined and on the basis of sorption data some polyvalent anions have been separated using HTiO columns.
