Notes: [Auszug] WHILE the hexammino compounds of the halides, nitrates and other salts of copper are well known, nothing seems to be on record regarding the existence of cupric hexammino sulphate. In recent communications, Dey and Bhattacharya1 have described a new method for the isolation of ...

Notes: Summary From the results described in this paper, it may be concluded that the precipitation of zinc from the solution of zinc sulphate is complete with a quantity of alkali which is much below the theoretically equivalent amount. The effect of temperature and dilution is not very marked as was observed in the precipitation of several metal hydroxides studied by us (5). From the adsorption studies we find that the association of sulphate with the precipitated hydroxides decreases with the increase in the concentration of alkali employed. As long as the precipitation of zinc is not complete, no generalization is possible on account of unequal amounts of adsorbent hut when the precipitation is complete a regularity in adsorption is noted. With increase in temperature, from 30° to 50° the adsorption of sulphate decreases in every case but with further rise in temperature, hydrolysis appears to be taking place, with time, and hence the amount of sulphate associated again increases. These observations are in accordance with those made in earlier studies. This paper records some of the preliminary observations and full work is in progress to understand the character of zinc hydroxide more fully.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Bildung löslicher Zinkate wurde durch Dialysieren von Lösungen aus Zinkhydroxyd in Natronlauge untersucht.
Notes: Summary The formation of soluble zincates has been investigated by dialysing a solution of zinc hydroxide in sodium hydroxide solution. It has been concluded that the system contains an equilibrium mixture of sodium zincate and colloidal zinc hydroxide and the proportion and stability of the former increase with the increase in the concentration of alkali. The equilibrium shifts with progressive dialysis and ultimately the system passes to a colloidal solution as a result of the hydrolysis of zincate ions.

Notes: Summary During the study of the composition of metal chelates of sodium alizarin-3-sulphonate, it was realized that the colloidal nature of the reagent, especially in concentrated solutions, masks the true composition of the chelate. An investigation of the electrical conductance at various dilutions and temperatures shows that the reagent belongs to the class of colloidal electrolytes. It is recommended that for the study of the composition of chelates involving such chelating agents, extremely dilute solutions should be employed for physicochemical investigation, because under these conditions the reagent would behave as a true electrolyte.

Notes: Summary Mixed ligand complexes of copper(II), zinc(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) ions involving 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) as primary and 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (dnsa), 5-nitrosalicylic acid (nsa), 5-chlorosalicylic acid (csa) and 3,5-dibromosalicylic acid (dbsa) as secondary ligands in solution have been investigated potentiometrically [25°, µ = 0.1 M [NaClO4], medium 50% v: v aqueous ethanol]. The stability order of mixed ligand complexes with respect to the metal ions obeys the natural order: cobalt(II) 〈 nickel(II) 〈 copper(II) 〉 zinc(II). The stabilities of the heterometal chelates have been compared with the corresponding homometal chelates of the secondary ligands and have been interpreted in terms of metal-ligand π effects and coulombic interactions between various ligand anion species present.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wurden Komplexierungsgleichgewichte vom binären TypM−L [M=Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) und UO2(VI);L=AZN=8-Azaguanin] potentiometrisch untersucht.
Notes: Abstract Metal complexation equilibria in the binary complexing systems of the typeM−L [M=Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), and UO2(VI);L=AZN=8-azaguanine] have been examined potentiometrically. The work has further been extended to investigating the ternary complexing systems of the typeM−A−L [A=2,2′-bipyridine, 1,10-phenanthroline or nitrilotriacetic acid]. Measurements were done at 25°C and at an ionic strength of 0.1M (NaClO4) in 50% (v/v) aqueous ethanol medium. Stabilities of the ternary complexes as compared to those of the corresponding binary complexes ofAZN are also discussed.
