Notizen: Abstract A study is made of the problem of maximizing the power taken from the shaft of the working rotor of a hydroturbine for a fixed available energy difference in the framework of a two-dimensional axisymmetric flow model. Necessary conditions of optimality of first and second order are derived and used to set up an algorithm for numerical solution of the problem. The results of calculations are given, and a comparison is made with optimal solutions obtained using two- and one-dimensional models of axisymmetric flow.

Notizen: Abstract The direct axisymmetric problem of the theory of hydrodynamic machinery is considered for flows in the turbine and pump regimes. In formulating and numerically solving the problem the conditions at the edges of the blade systems [7, 8] expressing the principal conservation laws are taken into account. The three-dimensional pressure distribution in the blade systems is calculated using the asymptotic relations [1, 9]. The results of the calculations are presented and the theoretical and experimental data on the flows in the blade passages of high-speed pump-turbines are compared.

Notizen: Abstract The flow in turbomachines is currently calculated either on the basis of a single successive solution of an axisymmetric problem (see, for example, [1-A]) and the problem of flow past cascades of blades in a layer of variable thickness [1, 5], or by solution of a quasi-three-dimensional problem [6–8], or on the basis of three-dimensional models of the motion [9–11]. In this paper, we derive equations of a three-dimensional model of the flow of an ideal incompressible fluid for an arbitrary curvilinear system of coordinates based on averaging the equations of motion in the Gromek–Lamb form in the azimuthal direction; the pulsation terms are taken into account in the equations of the quasi-three-dimensional motion. An algorithm for numerical solution of the problem is described. The results of calculations are given and compared with experimental data for flows in the blade passages of an axial pump and a rotating-blade turbine. The obtained results are analyzed.

Notizen: Abstract The equations of the problem of calculating secondary flows in hydromachinery blade systems are obtained for the quasi-three-dimensional flow approximations. The results of calculating these flows for a Francis turbine and the pumping regime of a pumpturbine are presented.

Notizen: Abstract When designing a hydraulic turbine, a machine of better performance characteristics and primarily of the highest possible efficiency should be created. In the process, a designer is given a numer of restrictions concerning dam height, impeller diameter, etc. The turbine efficiency can be increased by varying the impeller blade profile or the angular velocity of the impeller rotation and by some other design techniques. The problem of optimization of hydroturbine parameters has been investigated in a number of works (see e.g. Fedorov 1983, 1984; Klimovich and Fedorov 1984; Kazachkov and Provad 1989). This paper presents some optimum decisions obtained for one-and two-dimensional axisymmetrical flow models. The turbine efficiency and local cavitation coefficients are accepted as the goal functionals. Necessary optimizing conditions are described, and calculated optimum characteristics of blade systems are given.

Notizen: Hamilton's variational principle is applied to derive a system of conditions which expresses the balance of momentum and energy of an ideal gas across the selvadgesThe reviewer of this paper confesses to be unfamiliar with the term 'selvadge(s)' which appears frequently herein. Clearly, however, it (variously) means 'boundary', 'edge', 'projection of edge line' (meridional or axial), 'locus of leading edges', etc. of bladed zones within the flow tracts of turbines. This system provides the background for a correct formulation of optimal design problems for turbines and compressors. The exposition follows the model of a large number of blades when the basic equations can be averaged over the azimuthal co-ordinate.An analysis is given of the obtained conditions and a computational algorithm described.
