Notes: Summary We present our experience with a single-layer, extramucous continuous, intestinal anastomosis, which we consequently use in all colonic and small-bowel resections as long as the whole anastomosis can be sutured from outside the lumen. In a total of 278 consecutive anastomoses, 31 surgeons were involved. No leak was seen in the 159 colonic anastomoses, although 27% were emergency operations. However, there were 3 leaks among 119 small-bowel resections under rather special circumstances: extended peritonitis, radiochemotherapy, and technical error. The technique deserves wider application.
