Notes: The structural gene for deoxyguanosine triphosphate triphosphohydrolase (dGTPase) (EC 3.1.5.1) and its regulator, optA, have been located on a lambda phage carrying a 17.5kb Escherichia coli DNA insert. The DNA fragment has been excised and ligated into pBR325 and also transferred to another lambda vector. From the results of transduction and transformation experiments, we find that the structural gene for dGTPase is very closely linked to optA and dapD, which locates it at approximately 3.6 minutes on the genetic map of E. coli K12. We propose the mnemonic dgt as the designation for the structural gene for this enzyme.

Notes: Abstract Leaves of three different sizes excised from 14, 21, 28 and 35-day-old seedlings of Cucumis melo were cultured on a MS medium supplemented with a range and combination of growth regulators. Maximum shoot differentiation from the leaf explants occurred in the combined presence of BAP and 2iP at equimolar concentration of 1 μM. Regeneration potential of leaves declined with increasing size of the leaves and the age of the donor seedlings. For elongation the shoots were transferred to MS+BAP [1 μM]. Such shoots were rooted with 75% frequency on MS+IAA [0.5 μM]. The plants have been established in pots.

Notes: Abstract Resource prediction is necessary for allocation of exploration efforts to keep pace with future demand and the growth pattern of a commodity. Zipf's law, a mathematical relationship between size and rank of discrete phenomena, has been used for resource prediction of oil in Western Canada, uranium, gold, tin, and lead-zinc deposits in Australia, and copper deposits in Zambia. The model, applied to lead-zinc metal accumulation of 24 known “precambrain” deposits in India, indicates that about 75% of the lead-zinc metal is yet to be discovered. The probability of occurrence of 14 deposits of larger dimensions based on the cumulative percentage frequency for different accumulations lies between 5 and 30%. In future exploration, preference should be given to more effort in the Banded Gneissic Complex of Rajasthan in comparison to Aravalilis of Rajasthan, followed by similar environments throughout the country and Palaeozoic strata of the Himalayas.

Notes: Summary Post-burn contracture involving the dorsum of the hand with hyperextension and volar subluxation of the metacarpophalangeal joints of the fingers plus adduction contracture of the thumb is a crippling disability. Adequate release of such contractures leaves raw areas on the dorsum of the hand, forgers and in the first web space. Fasciocutaneous flaps from the contralateral chest wall (the lateral thoracic flap and the subaxillary flap) have been used in eight patients. The comfortable fixation position, the non-hairy nature of the flaps, the excellent vascularity and a concealed donor site, which can often be primarily closed, make these flaps attractive for the defects. Within a follow-up period of five to twelve months, all the patients returned to their previous vocation.

Notes: Summary A 16 year old girl presented with Tessier's No. 4 cleft on the right side coupled with No. 7 and No. 3 cleft on the left. Associated with this she had 6 molars in the left maxillary segment and a 7th unerupted one lying horizontally. Such a unique congenital anomaly has not been reported in literature until now.

Notes: Summary The number two craniofacial cleft as described by Tessier is an extremely rare cleft of unknown etiology with distinct soft tissue and bony characteristics. It traverses the alveolar arch at the level of lateral incisor, middle third of the alar rim, the junction between the nasal bone and the frontal process of maxilla and medial end of the eyebrow and continues cranially as a number 12 cleft. Two such patients with interruption of the middle third of alar rim and asymmetrical hypertelorism are described.
