Notes: We present the structural, optical, and electrical properties of Pb1−xYbxTe films (0〈x〈0.25) obtained by coevaporation onto Vycor, NaCl, and BaF2 substrates. They crystallize in the NaCl-type structure. The lattice parameter decreases slowly as x increases, not obeying the Vegard's law. Our data seem to indicate the stability of Yb2+ for 0〈x〈0.25. The optical band gap increases linearly with x. The resistivity of the films (n type) increases slowly whereas the mobility (135 cm2/V s for x=0.008) decreases faster as x increases.

Notes: Abstract If and when the time variation of optimal controls of a linear system subject to known forces is required, they can be obtained by the computationally advantageous open loop Volterra formulation (as opposed to the costlier Riccati formulation). For the computation, the Volterra equation is discretized in the time domain via such schemes as trapezoidal integration or SIMPSON's rule and the resulting linear system is solved to obtain the control vector values at discrete time points within the control timeT. In the case of very large order systems (degrees of freedom ∼ 5000) a parallel technique is absolutely neccessary, and this paper enunciates an efficient parallel stratagem with efficiencies in the range of 80% and 100%. The algorithm uses ‘s + 1’ processors, ‘s’ being the number of intervals within the control timeT, and typically each processor characterizes one time point.

Notes: Abstract The condensation of 1,2,5-trimethylpiperidine-4-one with phenol and isomeric cresols yields 1,2,5-trimethyl-4-(p-hydroxyphenyl)- and (p-hydroxytolyl)-δ3-tetrahydropyridines, the structure and conformation of which have been studied by proton NMR spectroscopy.

Notes: Summary Incompressible laminar jet mixing of a dustry fluid issuing from a circular jet has been considered by using Saffman's model for dusty fluid. Assuming the velocity and temperature in the jet to differ only slightly from that of the surrounding stream, a perturbation method has been employed to linearize the basic equations. The linearized equations have been solved by using Hankel transform, technique. Numerical computations have been made to discuss the veoocity and temperature profiles. It is observed that the particles move faster than the fluid in the down stream direction and the particles temperature is lower than the fluid temperature.

Notes: Summary Finite—difference implicit scheme is adopted to solve the Aris-moment equations of dispersion of solute in an oscillatory flow through a pipe for all time. Mean concentration distribution have been calculated from first four central moments by using Hermite polynomials and the deviations from Gaussianity have also been examined for unsteady flow.

Notes: Abstract With the aim of investigating the influence of fragment nuclear structure e.g. shell closure configuration and odd-even nature on the scission configuration, fragment angular momenta have been deduced from the radiochemically determined independent isomeric yield ratios of the fission products111Pd,131Te,133Te,134I and138Cs in252Cf spontaneous fission. The fragments' angular momenta deduced are 8.8± 1.5, 5.8 ±1.0, 6.1±1.1, 11.5±1.1 and 9.8±1.2 ħ respectively. The angular momenta data from this work and literature have been analysed to arrive at fragments' deformations at the scission bringing out the influence of the spherical 82n and deformed 66n and 88n shells. The fragment angular momenta were also seen to be inversely correlated to their elemental yields exhibiting odd-even fluctuations. This has been explained in terms of equilibration of the collective degrees of freedom in low energy fission.

Notes: Abstract Independent isomeric yield ratios of128Sb were determined radiochemically in the thermal neutron induced fission of241Pu and 34 MeV alpha particle induced fission of238U, both involving the same compound nucleus (242Pu). Fragment angular momenta estimated from the measured isomer ratios using the statistical model analysis showed significantly larger fragment angular momenta in the medium energy fissioning system compared to the low energy fissioning system. This has been attributed to the effect of higher excitation energy and angular momentum in the entrance channel leading to increased fragment temperature, moments of inertia and angular velocity. An attempt was made to calculate the fragment angular momentum in the medium energy fission using the Fermi gas model for the fissioning nucleus, taking into account the multichance fission, saddle shapes of the fissioning nuclei and the angular velocity components of the fissioning nuclei both along and orthogonal to the fission axis. The calculated angular momenta agree well with the experimental results.
