Notes:
Integral variational principles for the statics of a nonreacting, nonviscous fluid mixture are presented, both for open and closed systems. It is demonstrated that the use of Gibbs' free energy as "density function'' gives the appropriate field equations only if a peculiar choice for constitutive equations is made: mass and heat fluxes must be linear in gradients of chemical potential and temperature.
