Abstract The isotopic composition of the heavy elements Ti, Fe, Br, Sr, Ba, Nd, Gd, Dy, and Pb, contained in rock samples, on the sea bottom, and in sea shells, was measured by the method of laser mass spectrometry. The experimental data obtained are compared with the main characteristics of nuclear isotopes — spin, magnetic moment, electric quadrupole moment, and neutron binding energy. A correlation was observed between the combination of signs of the magnetic moment and electric quadrupole moment and the anomalous fractionation of isotopes of heavy elements. The behavior of protoisotopes and magic nuclei is studied.
