    Notes: Abstract At-channel factorization model is used to estimate cross sections for the processes γγ→V 1 V 2. WheneverV=ρ, the width of the ρ has been included in the calculations. The channels γγ→ρ0ρ0, ρ0ϕ, ϕϕ, ωω, ρ0ω and ρ+ρ− are calculated for two quasi-real photons. Predictions are also given for the process γ*γ→ρ0ρ0 for virtual photon mass squaredQ 2〈5 GeV2. Our results are consistent with all available experimental data.

    Notes: Abstract We have calculated the μ-pair production via photon-photon collisions in deep-inelastic charged lepton scattering on proton and nuclei, using the equivalent photon approximation. Specific parametrizations were assumed for the proton and the nuclei form factors and the QED photon structure function. Results are given for lepton energies below 300 GeV and virtual photon massesQ 2 less than 50 GeV2, as functions of the μ-pair mass, the scaling variablex and the electric chargeZ of the hadron target. Using a photon structure function derived from QPM and VDM we also estimate the contribution of γγ collisions to hadron production in these deep inelastic processes.

    Notes: Abstract Using a covariant formalism we calculate to leading order the 2-photon contribution to lepton pair production in coherent heavy ion collisions with-in the framework of EPA. The most significant result of our calculation is the presence of a prominent narrow threshold enhancement in thee + e − invariant mass distribution. The position of this peak is essentially energy independent, however, its height and width tend to increase with increasing energy, mass and charge of the colliding ions. Results are presented for configurations at the Bevalac and SPS machines which are then extrapolated down to the GSI energy region.

    Notes: Abstract We fit the photon structure function and photon-photon total cross section obtained from two photone + e − experimental data. We show that a combination of the QPM point-like cross section and an hadronic cross section, given by a simple energy power expansion modified by a threshold factor, is in excellent agreement with the data.
