Abstract A study is made of one-dimensional nonlinear oscillations of an ideal gas in a pipe one end of which is closed, the pressure being given at the other end and periodically varying with the time. For frequencies close to the subresonance ones, asymptotic equations are obtained which govern the periodic motions of the gas. Solutions containing shock waves are constructed.
