Abstract The effect of barium titanium silicate additions to pure and manganese-doped barium titanate was studied by high-temperature conductivity and analytical electron microscopy. The results show that this addition precipitates during cooling as a second crystalline phase with only a small amount of amorphous phase left in a few grain boundaries. The secondary crystalline phase incorporates excess manganese left from the heterogeneous doping of barium titanate.
