Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Bei 110 Parkinson-Kranken (53 Männer, 57 Frauen) im Alter von 38–81 Jahren wurden computertomographische Verlaufsuntersuchungen zur Entwicklung der Hirnatrophic durchgeführt.
Notes: Summary In 110 parkinsonian patients (53 men, 57 women) aged 38–81 years, computer-tomographic follow-up investigations were done to assess the development of brain atrophy. The control examinations were done after an average of 28 months. At that time an increase in brain atrophic changes of different localization could be observed in 23% of the patients. In addition, it could be demonstrated that the increase in pathologic CT findings is to be observed especially in patients with higher age, a more marked impairment in psycho-organic capacity, more pronounced handicaps in the fine-motorial performances at the beginning of the study. From the neuroradiological point of view, patients with more marked pathologic CT findings upon the first examination, be these ventricular enlargement and/or cortical atrophy, more often showed a progression of brain atrophy.

Notes: Abstract We discuss the temperature dependence of the nuclear quadrupolar spin relaxation rate in metals and alloys. Four different relaxation processes must be distinguished: Hard collisions, diffusion, decay of associates and rotational diffusion. The latter two processes are important in alloys of strongly interacting alloying partners, the former in pure metals (collision) and ideal or regular mixtures. Diffusion is important if the alloying partners produce different electrical field gradients.

Notes: Abstract In liquid In0.83Te0.17 which exhibits demixing at Tc=835 K, we have measured the nuclear spin relaxation rate R of the isomeric probe 117msb by a TDPAD technique. Within an interval of 50 K, an increase of R by about 30% is observed as T → Tc. This phenomenon is interpreted as indicating a marked increase of concentration fluctuations over small regions in r-space.

Notes: Abstract We have developed a model calculation for the electrical field gradient correlation function on a probe atom in the liquid, cEFG(t)=〈V20(0)V20(t)〉. In this model, symmetry of the liquid is introduced explicitly and the distribution function for therelative coordinate ri(t) between the probe atom and particle i is calculated using Smoluchowski's diffusion equation with a mean force potential Φ(r)=kBT In g(r). The results for cEFG(t) can be characterized by two correlation times, , the shorter one being responsible for the small values of RQ in pure liquid metals, the longer one producing the increase of RQ in alloys. Also good agreement is found with recent results for cefg(t) from molecular dynamics studies.
