Notes: Summary We conducted an investigation of 186 randomly selected acute adult leukemia patients in order to examine how far age and subtype of leukemia can be correlated with survival rate. The diagnosis of leukemia was established by cytochemical and cytomorphological techniques. There was an increased frequency of acute myelogenic leukemias in older patients. The age group of the 61–90 year old showed a significant decrease in the survival rate, but at the same time in this age group there was a higher frequency of leukemia types with poor prognosis. Early deaths were correlated with advanced age of patients. There were no long time survivors (with survival rates longer than 4 years after diagnosis) above the age of 57.

Description / Table of Contents: Holographic Interferometry - a Nondestructive Inspection Technique for Early Detection of Construction Element DamagesAfter a short introduction into the fundamentals of holographic of holographic interferometry, the application of this process to non-destructive material testing is explained. Practical examples of qualitative and quantitative deformation measurements carried out on building elements of different materials as well as on metallic and nonmetallic combinations show the possibilities of early recognition of manufacturing flaws and weak points due to the construction and also the determination of construction material characteristic coefficients.

Description / Table of Contents: Strain Measurements of Great Tensile-Test Pieces of Reactor Steel by Holographic InterferometryWith a tensile-test rod of 100 mm diameter the application of holographic interferometry to not vibration isolated mounts has been demonstrated using advanced holographic techniques. The three spatial components of the deformation of an extended part of the rod surface have been calculated and analysed according to a specific deformation behaviour. Especially, it appeared that the strain in the direction of stress showed a discontinuity where later on the rod raptured due to a much greater load.

Description / Table of Contents: Quantitative holographic testing of fibre reinforced plastic components of spacecrafts. The quantitative evaluation of holographic interferograms lead to an exact determination of displacements and deformations of arbitrary shaped objects. The measurements can be carried out in the range of about 0 to 100 μm with an accuracy of ± 0,05 μm. The application of this method is reported for the case of spacecraft components under thermal and mechanical load.

Notes: Holographic interferometry was investigated as a method for nondestructive testing of flat sheets of glass-fiber reinforced plastics. Initially, the deformation behavior of faultless sheets was examined by means of holographic interferometry. The interferograms which resulted from various loading conditions (i.e., tensile load, bending) were compared to results obtained mathematically. The interferograms of faultless sheets were then compared to those of defective laminates. By suitable loading of the smaples a range of laminate faults could be readily and qualitatively detected. The influence of these faults on the tensile strength was examined. Not only the mechanical loading of the laminates, but also an acoustic stimulation of the sheets proved suitable for interferometric detection of laminate faults.
