Notizen: The carbon-13 spectra of some para and meta substituted phenylferrocenes have been analysed. The substituent-caused shifts are discussed and compared with similarly substituted biphenyls. Correlations with Hammett parameters and with the reactivity parameters of Swain and Lupton have been attempted.

Notizen: 13C chemical shifts for 23 para- and meta-substituted chalcones of the types 1 and 2 have been determined. The aromatic shieldings are compared with previous results for other aromatic derivatives. Correlations of the 13C chemical shifts of vinyl carbons and carbonyl carbons as well as ring carbons with Hammett σ parameters, π electron densities and the reactivity parameters of Swain and Lupton provide a consistent picture of electronic effects transmitted through the carbon framework of the compounds studied.

Notizen: 1H NMR spectra of 26 substituted chalcones (3-aryl-1 phenyl-2-propene-1-ones and 1-aryl-3-phenyl-2-propene-1-ones) have been studied. The chemical shifts of the α and β protons to the carbonyl group were correlated with Hammett s̰ parameters. To gain information on the effect of the transmission of the resonance and inductive contributions of the substituents on the chemical shifts of H-α and H-β, two parameter correlations with f and r parameters were also perfomed. The chemical shifts of the aromatic protons of the para-disubstituted benzene ring correlated with the ai substituent increments.

Notizen: The 13C and 1H chemical shifts of the ferrocene moiety, as well as the carbonyl carbons and styrene moiety, of substituted 2-benzylidene[3]ferrocenophane-1,3-diones have been assigned. Correlations of 13C substituent chemical shifts of both carbonyl carbons with the Hammett constants have been found, and the effect of the transmission of substituent effects on these chemical shifts through the styrene moiety is discussed. An explanation is given for the different sensitivities of the carbonyl carbon chemical shifts to the electronic effect of substituents in mono- and dicarbonyl derivatives.

Notizen: The transmission of electronic effects across the ferrocene analogues of chalcones [3-aryl-1-ferrocenyl-2-propene-1-ones (series 1) and 1-aryl-3-ferrocenyl-2-propene-1-ones (series 2)], as well as the conformations of both types of ferrocene analogues have been studied. The ferrocene analogues of chalcones of series 1 were found to be in a non-planar conformation. Their H-α and C-α chemical shifts are more sensitive to the resonance than to the inductive effects of substituents. The C-α chemical shifts of the ferrocene analogues of chalcones of series 2 are more sensitive to the inductive than to the resonance effects of substituents. The transmission of the substituent effects to the ferrocene moiety is also briefly discussed.
