Zusammenfassung Wir untersuchten den Einheilungsprozeß transplantierter Rattenhornhäute in Abhängigkeit vom Quellungszustand der Transplantate. Rattenhornhäute wurden 48 h bei 4° C parallel in Macrodex 6% (Knoll) und MK-Medium (McCarey, Kaufman 1974) aufbewahrt und anschließend zur perforierenden Keratoplastik verwandt. Der Heilungsverlauf wurde durch Beobachtung vor der Spaltlampe und histologische Methoden untersucht. Der Einheilungsprozeß war unabhängig von der Quellung der Transplantate vor der Operation. Wir folgern, daß verminderte Transplantatquellung bei Rattenhornhäuten nicht mit verbesserter Einheilung parallel geht. Dieses Phänomen bestätigt frühere Beobachtungen an Rinderhornhäuten, daß verminderte Wasseraufnahme unter in vitro-Bedingungen nicht Ausdruck erhöhter Transplantat-Vitalität ist.

Abstract We examined the healing process of transplanted rat corneas in relation to the swelling of the grafts. Rat corneas were stored parallel in Macrodex 6% (Knoll) and MK medium (McCarey and Kaufman) at 4° C for 48 h and successively applied in penetrating keratoplasty. The healing process was investigated by observation with a slit lamp and histological methods. Graft swelling before transplantation did not influence the healing process. We conclude that decreased graft swelling is not paralleled by improved wound healing in rat corneas. This phenomenon confirms our previous observations of bovine corneas, that decreased water uptake in vitro is not paralleled by increased vitality of the corneas.
