    Description / Table of Contents: Summary Anhydrous aluminium chloride gives colour reactions with many organic compounds in organic solvents (especially in nitrohydrocarbons). Such reactions were studied principally with steroid hormones. Interesting specific methods for their detection resulted. Correlations between the structure of the organic compound and the colour reaction are indicated.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Wasserfreies Aluminiumchlorid reagiert in organischer Lösung (besonders nitrierte Kohlenwasserstoffe sind geeignet) mit vielen organischen Verbindungen unter Bildung von gefärbten Produkten. Besonders eingehend wurden die entsprechenden Reaktionen bei den Steroidhormonen untersucht, wo sich interessante spezifische Nachweismethoden ergeben. Es wird auf die Zusammenhänge zwischen Struktur der organischen Verbindung und Farbbildung hingewiesen.

    Notes: Summary A special type of paper chromatography is described and is named elatography. The substances to be identified are reacted with a suitable compound on the paper either before or during the elution of the chromatogram. The main characteristic of the method is that there are always reaction products which are separated and identified. The distance travelled by the front of the mobile phase can be essentially shortened by this procedure. The result is a great economy of time.
