Notizen: [Auszug] IN a paper recently published (Transactions Royal Dublin Society and Phil. Mag., February) I described some work on secondary β radiation given off by substances when exposed to β (and γ) rays from radium. The paper gave the relative intensity of this secondary radiation for only a few ...

Notizen: The doctrine of predestination is commonly regarded as the normative dogma of Reformed or Calvinistic theology —but the contemporary demand for Christocentric theology is held to prove that this norm is not fully Christian. The impressive critical analysis of Karl Barth, for example, shows the Reformed doctrine of predestination, especially as it is worked out in the centuries following the Reformation, to be reduced to ‘double predestination’. This unscriptural teaching, Barth argues, derives from the misplacement of the doctrine in Reformed theology, since its proper position (Stellung) in dogmatics is in the context of Christology, and ‘not directly following the doctrine of God’.

Notizen: Abstract We report on a study of time dependence of ir laser emission at 3.41 μm in a dense Na vapor that is resonantly excited to the 32 P levels by a flashlamp, pumped dye laser. Energy-pooling collisions (excitation transfer) between excited atoms create a large population inversion among the 52 S 1/2 and 42 P 3/2 states which is destroyed by electron collisions as a result of subsequent plasma formation. The ir laser emission may serve as a new diagnostic tool to follow the time evolution of such media.
