    Notes: Housing units are heterogeneous goods. Rates of change in housing prices are typically modelled as if they arise from factors unrelated to the housing unit itself. For example, housing price increases in the latter part of the 1970s and early 1980s are argued to have arisen primarily from demographic factors and the differential effects of inflation on the effective rate of taxation on income from corporate capital and on owner-occupied housing. Cross-sectional variation in price inflation is not addressed. Consumers who purchased housing units are not indifferent to their attributes. To the extent that expectations vary within regional housing markets as a consequence of variation in housing attributes, standard linear hedonic price regression may generate biased estimates of implicit prices. This paper identifies sufficient conditions for the estimates of implicit prices in linear hedonic price regressions to be unbiased and generate unbiased estimates of implied price changes. Finally, this paper identifies living space (house size) as a significant attribute related positively to the increase in individual housing prices in a regional market.

    Notes: The relationship between the Dominions and the Crown and the Imperial Parliament presents questions of great difficulty. At the present time the Dominions are, just as the Colonies, subject to the legal—though not to the political—supremacy of the Imperial Parliament, the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Though this supremacy has for many years not been exercised positively, i.e. by the passing of Acts affecting a Dominion, except at the request of such Dominion, e.g. at the request of Canada to amend the British North America Act, 1867, yet it still exists, inasmuch as there are in force Acts of the Imperial Parliament (especially the Acts creating the Dominion Constitutions) which apply to the Dominions, and the courts would be compelled to hold any Dominion legislation conflicting with such Acts to be inoperative.

    Notes: Abstract Phase compositions in pelitic and mafic gneisses place tight constraints on pressure (ranging from 3 up to 6 kb), and, to a lesser extent, on temperature (500° up to 800° C) during prograde regional metamorphism of the Willyama Complex, Broken Hill, SE Australia. These limits allow an evaluation of water activity across the terrain using various equilibria in pelitic and mafic gneisses. The stability of cummingtonite and biotite over much of the terrain places upper limits on temperature, and the presence of syn-metamorphic partial melts in the metasediments places lower limits on a(H2O). Garnet-biotitesillimanite-K feldspar-quartz relations combined with the partial melting data suggest a decrease in water activity from near 1.0 in the lower grade zones to 0.5±0.2 in the Broken Hill — Little Broken Hill part of the two pyroxene zone. This result is compatible with less precise hornblende-orthopyroxene-clinopyroxene-quartz relations. These P-T-a(H2O) data from the Willyama Complex support a continuum from amphibolite to granulite facies, as proposed by Binns (1964) and suggest that the higher grade assemblages are formed in response to both higher temperature and lower water activity. The formation of granulite facies terrains by prior crustal dehydration is unsubstantiated in the present example. Instead, the decrease from a(H2O)∼-1.0 in the andalusite/sillimanite-muscovite zones to a(H2O) 〈 1.0 found at higher grades, is likely to reflect buffering by partial melting and dehydration reactions in the volumetrically dominant metasediments.

    Notes: Summary Interspecific hybrid clover plants from the cross Trifolium sarosiense Hazsl. X T. pratense L. were obtained in the present investigation. Immature hybrid embryos were excised aseptically from the pistillate parent, T. sarosiense (2 n = 48), and cultured in vitro prior to in situ abortion. Agar-solidified nutrient media modified from that developed previously for tissue and cell cultures of red clover (2 n = 14) were used for embryo rescue. The heart shaped embryos obtained were cultured for 8 to 14 days on a medium containing a high level of sucrose, a moderate level of auxin, and low cytokinin activity. Viable embryos were then transferred to a standard medium with low auxin and moderate cytokinin levels for the direct germination of shoots. Some embryos produced only callus. Plants were regenerated from callus using an alternate culture scheme. Hybrid shoot numbers were increased on a low auxin, high cytokinin medium and subsequently rooted before transfer to soil in the greenhouse. About 10% of the hybrid embryos were rescued using the optimal culture sequence. Five full-sib families of the F1 hybrid were successfully grown to maturity. Root-tip cells of hybrid plants possessed the expected somatic chromosome number of 31. The genetically determined leaf-mark trait carried by the staminate parent and the rhizomatous root habit of the pistillate parent were expressed in hybrid plants.
