Notes: Fifteen children, 6–14 years old, who were heavily exposed to pigeon droppings, presented with cough, chills and breathlessnes on mild exertion. Twelve gave immediate positive skin test reactions to pigeon droppings. Ten of the fifteen also gave a late (Arthus) reaction, and seven gave a positive delayed reaction which was maximal at 24–72 hr. Nine children had precipitins against avian droppings. In ten patients who were tested for lymphocyte transformation, five gave positive responses to both serum and pigeon droppings. Radiological findings of the chest showed parenchymatous infiltrations and diffuse interstitial reticulations, suggestive of extrinsic allergic alveolitis. In a control group of fifteen heavily-exposed children who had no symptoms, immediate and late skin reactions occurred respectively in five and two. One only had a positive precipitin test, and one of five tested had a positive lymphoblastic transformation. In a non-exposed comparable group of children, all tests were negative except for one immediate positive skin response. Children heavily exposed to the inhalation of avian antigens can develop extrinsic allergic bronchiolo-alveolitis.

Notes: Summary R.B.C.'s amino acid pattern was investigated in control and PEM subjects. The effect of oral dosing with cysteine, tryptophan and lysine on total amino acid nitrogen level of R.B.C.s was also studied. Results revealed that in moderate and severe kwashiorkor the total essential and non-essential R.B.C.'s amino acids were decreased. In 2nd grade marasmus the total R.B.C.'s amino acids in general showed lower values than normal. After oral administration of the tested amino acids, the transport index calculated as the level of maximum value of the total R.B.C.'s amino acids reached to the fasting level was lower in malnourished cases relative to controls except in 2nd grade marasmic cases given tryptophan or lysine. This criteria was considered to indicate lower rate of amino acid transport to R.B.C.s due to lower concentration in plasma or shift of transport mechanism from active transport to exchange diffusion.

Notes: Summary The monohydrazones derived from the condensation of diacetyl and benzil with hydrazine-S-methylcarbodithioate (Dahydth) and (Benhydth) were prepared and their ligation properties with nickel(II), copper(II), palladium(II), zinc(II) and cadmium(II) were studied. A series of bisligand chelates were isolated and characterized. In the zinc(II), cadmium(II) copper(II) and palladium(II) bisligand chelates, both Dahydth and Benhydth act as mononegative bidentate molecules. The Ni(Dahydth-H)2 chelate possesses an octahedral structure where Dahydth acts as a mononegative tridentate ligand. The1H n.m.r. spectra of the two ligands as well as of the diamagnetic metal(II) chelates are discussed. The fragmentation in a mass spectrometer of all these chelates was also studied.

Notes: Abstract Photoemulsions were irradiated to 8.4, 9.6, 69 GeV/c protons and 4.2 GeV/c/nucleon12C ions. Large stars, having a number of heavily ionizing particlesn h≧28, were selected for this study. These events represent the catastrophic destruction of AgBr emulsion nuclei. Multiplicity, angular and energy distributions of particles, produced in this case, were studied at different momenta and for different incident particles. It was shown that the products of complete destruction of heavy nuclei are nearly individual nucleons. The probability of this phenomenon increases with the projectile mass number. About half of nuclear matter is knocked out of the target nucleus with energy higher than 30 MeV/nucleon. The average multiplicity ofs-particles¯n s is weakly dependent on the target nucleus mass number whereas the average multiplicity ofg-particles¯n g is strongly dependent on it. The modified pre-equilibrium model gives a satisfactory description for the energy spectrum of the emitted slow protons.

Notes: Summary This study was undertaken to study the changes of the blood constituents of rats fed different proteins (lupinus termis, Guiza 1, 2 and balady; fenugreek seeds, raw, roasted, and germinated). The total serum protein for animals fed casein was slightly higher than those fed other proteins. Total serum protein of animals fed lupinus termis, roasted and germinated fenugreek was higher than those fed raw seeds. The albumin/globulin ratios showed a similar trend. The ratio of nonessential to essential free serum amino acids of rats fed non-protein diet was higher than those fed protein. Lupinus termis and fenugreek seeds are good sources of protein. Treatment of seeds either by heat of germination improves the nutritive value of the proteins.

Notes: Summary General chemical analysis of some Egyptian legumes (lupinus termis and fenugreek seeds) and biological evaluation for their proteins were investigated. Results showed that lupinus termis and fenugreek seeds have high protein contents (with the exception of germinated fenugreek). They are good sources of calcium and phosphorus. Raw seeds gave low PER and NPR values. However, these values increase after roasting or germination.

Notes: Summary A series of 1,5-thiocarhodihydrazones (HL) were reacted with nickel(II) acetate to give neutral bisligand nickel(II) chelates, Ni(L)2. Reaction of nickel(H) chloride, however. results in partial hydrolysis of the dihydrazones to give Ni(RCH=NNHCSNHNH2)2Cl2 chelate complexes. Deprotonation of these chelates with pyridine gave the neutral chelates Ni(RCH=NN=CSNHNH2)2. Copper(H) salts are readily reduced by the dihydrazone ligands to copper(I) chelates of the type CuL, Cu(HL)2CI and Cu2(HL)3CI2.

Notes: Abstract X-ray diffraction techniques have been applied to study the structural changes and processes which take place when zinc metal is subjected to oxidation and self-polarization at the metal-electrolyte interface. The effect of electrolyte concentration and anodizing voltage on the structure and composition of the ZnO layer formed was investigated.
