Crystal and Molecular Structure of 2,19-Dithia[3.3](4,4′)diphenyldiazeno〈2〉phaneThe title compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group Pí with a = 630.1, b = 755.5, and c = 1232.4 pm and ä = 91.46°, β = 93.50°, and γ = 101.71° with one molecule in the elementary cell. The molecule is centrosymmetric and not optically active. Due to the phane structure both azobenzene moieties are slightly deformed. They are essentially parallel in the v. d. Waals distance with a slight parallel displacement. This structure is also evident in the UV spectrum1).

Die Titelverbindung kristallisiert triklin in der Raumgruppe Pí mit a = 630.1, b = 755.5 und c = 1232.4 pm sowie ä = 91.46°, β = 93.50° und γ = 101.71°. Die Elementarzelle enthält ein Molekül, das im Kristall in der zentrosymmetrischen, nicht optisch aktiven Form vorliegt. Die beiden Azobenzoleinheiten sind durch die Phan-Struktur nur wenig deformiert, sie sind im v.-d.-Waals-Abstand leicht gegeneinander verschoben. Diese Anordnung folgt auch aus dem UV-Spektrum1).
