Notes: It is generally admitted that contact dermatitis seldom appears in children. Highly-seven cases, him ever, have been diagnosed at the Department of Allergology of the Dermatological Clinic in Strasbourg in the past 10 years (1969–1978). No element of atopic diathesis could he found in any of them. We have- reviewed the cases with a positive patch lest to try to derive both theoretical and practical conclusions.

Notes: Summary The study was carried out in the first year on samples of random F5 lines, uniform in height and in heading date, of three crosses between semi dwarf spring wheat cultivars (Triticum aestivum L.), differing in grain weight and in their Rht gene. In the second year only the progenies of the early heading F5 lines were studied. All the material was grown in the absence of lodging. The culm-length genotypes of the different lines were identified by test crosses and by a seedling GA response test. No differences in grain weight were found between the two semi dwarf genotypes (Rht 1Rht1 rht 2rht2 and rht 1rht1 Rht 2Rht2). The tall genotype (rht 1rht1 rht 2rht2) was significantly higher in grain weight than the two semi dwarf genotyes and the grain weight of these genotypes exceeded markedly the grain weight of the dwarf genotype (Rht 1Rht1 Rht 2Rht2). These genotypic effects were independent of differences in plant height, heading date or number of grains per spike.

Notes: Summary Reciprocal crosses were made between cultivated wheat (Triticum turgidum var. ‘durum’) and a high-protein line of wild tetraploid wheat (T. turgidum var. ‘dicoccoides’). F1 grains (on maternal spikes) were very similar to the selfed grains on the maternal parent in protein percentage, weight and protein content. These traits were also analyzed in F3 grains developed on F2 spikes of segregating populations derived from reciprocal crosses between the same cultivated parent and another high-protein line of var. ‘dicoccoides’. No significant differences in the mean values of these traits were found between the reciprocal crosses, indicating no cytoplasmic effect. It has been concluded that these grain characteristics are largely determined by the maternal plant.

Notes: Abstract Distributions with respect toz andz R for the fastest and second fastest particles produced in both beam and target hemispheres from 147 GeV/c π− interactions are compared with each other and with the distributions for the fastest and second fastest particles from deepinelastic leptoproduction and Field-Feynman curves. The distributions and curves for the fastest particles are very similar, with the exception of the identified protons. Those for the second fastest are in agreement. Distributions with respect toz′ R for the first through fourth fastest particles (excepting the protons) are all similar, suggesting that the shape of the distributions may be determined by the available longitudinal phase space.

Notes: Summary The development of the vegetative yield components and ajmalicine content in the roots was studied in three pure lines of Catharanthus roseus and their hybrids. A significant interaction was found for the various components between the genotypes and the developmental stages of the plant. The F1 hybrids performed generally better than the parents in leaf and root weight but not in ajmalicine content. Significant genetic and environmental correlations were found between the leaf and the root dry weights but not between the vegetative components and the ajmalicine content of the roots. The breeding of pure line cutivars for dual exploitation of the roots and the leaves for their alkaloids seems to be more appropriate than the use of hybrid cultivars.

Notes: This paper discusses computational strategies for elastic-plastic-creep behaviour. These computational strategies, based on the tangent stiffness and initial strain techniques, include solution algorithms, modelling techniques and constitutive relations.A predictor-corrector iterative and non-iterative scheme is presented for combined plasticity and creep. This scheme has been incorporated into the three-dimensional, isoparametric element, module (HEX) of the Grumman PLANS finite element program for nonlinear analysis and used for the problems presented in this paper. The concept of modelling for inelastic behaviour is demonstrated by introducing a variable set of inelastic integration points within a finite element at which stresses and strains are monitored. In order to perform a meaningful analysis, one must understand and justify the employed constitutive relations. To this end, work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in justifying constitutive relations for high-temperature nuclear reactor components is referred to.An analysis of a test model of a nuclear reactor inlet nozzle operating at high temperatures is presented to demonstrate some of the computational strategies discussed.
