Notes: Abstract Pneumothorax is an uncommon complication of bronchiolitis. This case illustrates an unusual pattern of atelectasis of the right lung with pleural air surrounding the right upper lobe and the remainder of the lung expanded. It is thought that the hyperinflated lung is unable to collapse as a result of the ‘ball valve’ effect of air trapping.

Notes: The potential energy curves for the intermolecular proton transfer in complementary base pairs and respective hydrogen bonded model systems have been studied at the semiempirical all-valence and ab initio STO-3G level. The proton transfer probability was found to be markedly greater in excited electronic states than that of the ground state. Substantial lowering of the potential barrier height for the coupled double proton transfer in model (HCOOH)2 system has been observed when the dynamics of zero-point vibrational deformations of the heavy atom skeleton and the environmental effects were taken into account in nonempirical STO-3G calculations. The results of quantum-chemical calculations indicate on the possibility of the double proton transfer in complementary base pairs corroborating the submolecular Löwdin hypothesis on the mechanism of spontaneous mutations.

Description / Table of Contents: Bor-Stickstoff-Verbindungen. 83.
Notes: Nuclear magnetic resonance and vibrational spectroscopic data support the existence of liner C=N—B skeleton in monomeric iminoboranes of the type R2C=N—BR2′. This allene-like arrangement of the central moiety of the compounds does not seem to enhance the N—B bond strength by interaction of this bond with the vicinal C=N bond. Rather, in the case of R′ being a hydrocarbon group, the nature of the N—B bond is similar to that found in (monoamino) diorganyl-boranes, R2N—Br2′. Similarly, (CF3)2C=N—B[N(CH3)2]2 may ve viewed as a trisaminoborane. However, the rigid C=N—BN2 unit makes this compound colored and the electronic structure of the species was studied; theoretical and experimental data are in good agreement.
