    Notes: Abstract Transient creep of pure and commercial aluminium was studied under a constant stress of 18·6 MPa at different temperatures ranging from 613 to 698 K. The anomalous values of transient creep parametersβ, n ranging from 0·003–0·055 (±0·001) and 0·5–1·0 (±0·05) respectively, which were found in this temperature rangs, might bs ascribed to the superplastic behaviour of pure and commercial aluminium. The activation energy of transient creep for pure Al was found to be about (2·4 +0·07) × 10−22) kJ/atom. characterizing a dislocation glide-cross slipping mechanism.

    Notes: Abstract It is shown that a circularly polarized laser light passing through a disordered system represented by a thin film of an amorphous semiconductor gives rise to a self-organization of new ordered states. Laser annealing of implanted semiconductors, emergence of charge density waves, light-induced transmittance oscillations and optical stopping effect are explained on a unified ground within the framework of quantum field theory.

    Notes: Abstract Locally prepared and homogenized Ag-10 at% Al wires were quenched from 400° C to room temperature followed by different ageing treatments at temperatures in the precipitation zone to obtain samples with different amounts ofμ-phase precipitation. Room temperature steady state creep and microhardness tests were performed in order to assess the degree of precipitation in the samples. Increased precipitation of theμphase was found to decrease the strain rate and to increase the hardness. The precipitation process was possibly enhanced by the quenched vacancies. X-ray analysis after creep fracture revealed a remarkable drop in the integral intensities, indicating the destruction of the ordered structure of theμ-phase, i.e. partial redissolution of it.

    Notes: Summary In this paper we report on a series of unidirectional compression measurements carried out on chemically crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and poly(vinyl acetate) (FVAc) networks. The influence of the molecular mass and the molecular mass distribution of the primary chains on the mechanical properties has been studied. The PVAc gels were prepared by total acetylation of the PVA gels without producing changes in the network topology (topo-analogous transformation) (NAGY et al. 1978). The comparison between the mechanical behaviour of PVA and PVAc gels enables us to make a more detailed analysis of the molecular parameters relevant to the network structure.
