Notes: Abstract Specific heat measurements have been made on two reirradiated samples of A15 Nb3Al. Results of the present work are consistent with those of our earlier work on neutron-irradiated A15 Nb3Al, with the exception that there is no correlation between fluence and superconducting transition width.

Notes: Abstract The specific heats of the hexagonal structures H(NbIrO) and R(NbPtO) have been measured from1.2 to15 K. The R-phase compound is found to be superconducting withT c =3.8 K. The reduction inT c from10.1 to3.8 K between the two phases is qualitatively accounted for by corresponding reductions in the density of states and Debye temperature using the BCS theory.

Notes: Abstract The low-temperature specific heats of ScTc2 and ScRe2 are reported. The newly discovered record highT c for a Laves phase (10.9 K) in ScTc2 is explained qualitatively by its factor of two largerN(0) than in ScRe2 (T c=0.93 K). Comparison of the data for ScTc2 with that for HfV2 (T c=8.4 K), which has three times theN(0) as for ScTc2, suggests that the electron-phonon coupling strength is also an important factor in the highT c of ScTc2.

Notes: Abstract Recently it has been discovered that very slight substitution of Cu for Be in UBe13 depresses superconductivity below 0.050 K. We have measured the low-temperature specific heat of UBe12.94 Cu0.06(T c〈0.050 K) and found that the heavy fermion, condensed phase present in UBe13 appearsunaltered in the copper-substituted material. Therefore, the presence of high-mass electrons is not directly correlated with superconductivity in UBe13.

Notes: The specific heat of A-15 Mo0.4Tc0.6 has been, measured in a 7-T magnetic field in order to suppress the superconducting transition. With normal state data now available from 7 to 25 K, an improved determination over previous work of λ and 2δ/kT c was possible. Thus, more accurate values for λ (6.2±0.5mJ/g-atom K2) and 2δ/kT c (5.3±0.5) have been determined. These parameters present a more believable picture of the strong coupling behavior of A-15 Mo0.4Tc0.6 than previously presented. In addition, the low-temperature specific heat data were extended to 1.4 K from the previous work's low of 4 K. These new data enable a determination of θD at T = 0 (349±5 K) and θD at 7 K (306±5 K) versus the high-temperature θD at T = 13 K previously determined (271±3 K).

Notes: Abstract The specific heat of a new orthorhombic structure modification of ZrRuP has been measured. The superconducting transition temperatureT c of this new phase, 3.76 K, is concluded to be much lower than that of the hexagonal modification (T c =13.0 K) due to the 30% stiffer lattice of the orthorhombic phase as determined by the Debye temperature. The high- and low-T c phases of ZrRuP are found to have nearly identical densities of states at the Fermi energy.

Notes: Abstract The specific heats of the sesquicarbides LaC1.35 and La0.9Th0.1C1.6 (prepared by arc melting) and YC1.35 (prepared by a high-pressure technique) have been measured for the first time. No bulk specific heat anomaly appears in either lanthanum compound, even though (1) inductively measured super-conducting transition temperatures are respectively high (11.0 K for LaC1.35 and 12.7 K for La0.9Th0.1C1.6) and (2) YC1.35 is a bulk superconductor with aT c =10.5 K and Y0.7Th0.3C1.58 (also prepared by high pressure) was previously reported to be a bulk superconductor with aT c =17.1 K. The apparent correlation with preparation technique is discussed.

Notes: The newly discovered high-T c superconductor A15 Nb3Si, with a lattice parameter of 5.091 å, is shown to have an anomalously low H c2 of 12.5 ± 0.5 T, a Ginzburg-Landau κ of 16 ± 2, and an implied resistivity of 35 ± 5ΜΩ-cm. The question of whether poor ordering due to the explosive compression preparation is responsible for this low H c2 is discussed.
