    Notes: Liberation Theology, a term that may still be quite new to many readers, represents a movement in theology that began to shape itself clearly in Latin America in the year 1970. Five international, but predominantly Latin American, conferences of theologians and biblical scholars in that year established the basic vocabulary, the key questions, the general direction of inquiry, and some agreed assumptions concerning method. These conferences, like the authors who subsequently emerged as leading spokesmen, were ecumenical but with a strong concentration of Roman Catholic scholars and churchmen.

    Notes: Summary 3-Chlorobenzoate grown cells ofPseudomonas strain B 13 readily co-oxidize 3-methylbenzoate yielding 82% (+)-2,5-dihydro-4-methyl- and 9% (+)-2,5-dihydro-2-methyl-5-oxo-furan-2-acetic acid (compounds I and II, X=CH3). The concentration of the products in the culture fluid exceed 11 g per liter without affecting the activity of the cells. The products were formed in 89% and 93% yield when 3- or 4-methylcatechol is cometabolized correspondingly. The lactonization of methyl- and halomuconic acids is discussed with regard to the mechanism of halide elimination during utilization of chlorosubstituted aromatic compounds.

    Notes: Abstract Pseudomonas sp. B13 was grown in continuous culture on 4-chlorophenol as the only carbon source. Maximum growth rate of 0.4h-1 was observed at a substrate concentration of 〉0.01 mM and 〈0.15 mM. In addition to the enzymes of phenol catabolism, high specific 1,2-dioxygenase activities with chlorocatechols as substrates were found. The isomeric monochlorinated phenols were also totally degraded by 4-chlorophenol grown cells. (+)-2,5-Dihydro-4-methyl- and (+)-2,5-dihydro-2-methyl-5-oxo-furan-2-acetic acid were formed in high yield as dead-end catabolites from cooxidation of cresoles. Several dichlorophenols except 2,6-dichlorophenol were removed from the culture fluid by chlorophenol grown cells. Ring cleavage of chlorinated catechols were shown to be one of the critical steps in chlorophenol catabolism. A catabolic pathway for isomeric chlorophenols is discussed.

    Notes: Abstract Continuing our investigations on propositional systems without assumption of the covering law, we introduce a quasi-tensor-product of a complete atomic orthomodular lattice with a complete atomic Boolean lattice. This product has a universal property with respect to postulates on propositional systems of coupled physical systems. We use it to describe measurements on a purely quantal object by a purely classical apparatus and find no nontrivial proposition of the object to be commensurable with its quantal negation. If the object is not purely quantal, the central propositions are commensurable. By this, it is shown directly that useful apparatuses must have a quantal microstructure.

    Description / Table of Contents: (Perhalomethylthio)heterocycles, VI: (Perchlorofluoromethylthio)- and (Haloformylthio)thiophenesThiophene reacts with Cl3-nFnCSCl(n = 2,3) and ClC(0)SCl in the presence of catalytic amounts of SnCl4 to give the 2-substituted thiophenes 1a -c. 2,5-Dimethylthiophene and 2-bromothiophene react analogously with Cl3-nFnCSCl to yield 3 and 2, respectively; these latter compounds can also be prepared by bromination of 1a, b. The reaction of thienylmagnesium bromide with Cl3-NFnCSCl (n = 0, 1) and FC(0)SCl gives additional 2-substituted thiophenes 1d-f. 2,5-Disubstituted derivatives 4a-d were obtained from 1a-c and Cl3-nFnCSCl (n = 2,3) or ClC(O)SCl in the presence of CF3SO3H or C4F9SO3H. 3 can be further substituted in an analogous manner. The CF3S-group is oxidized wih H2O2 in glacial acetic acid to the CF3SO2-group. The compounds 1f and 11 can be prepared by fluorine-chlorine exchange from CF3S-thiophene derivatives. 1H n.m.r. and 19F n.m.r. spectra are given.
    Notes: Thiophen setzt sich mit Cl3 - nFnCSCl (n = 2, 3) bzw. ClC(O)SCl in Gegenwart katalytischer Mengen SnCl4 zu 2-substituierten Thiophenen 1a - c um. Analog reagieren 2,5-Dimethylthiophen bzw. 2-Bromthiophen mit Cl3 - nFnCSCl zu 3 bzw. 2. Letztere sind auch durch Bromierung von 1a, b zugänglich. Durch Umsetzung von 2-Thienylmagnesiumbromid mit Cl3 - nFnCSCl (n = 0, 1) bzw. FC(O)SCl sind weitere 2-substituierte Thiophene 1d - f synthetisiert worden. 2,5-Disubstituierte Derivate 4a - d werden aus 1a - c und Cl3 - nFnCSCl(n =2,3)bzw. ClC(O)SCl in Anwesenheit von CF3SO3H bzw. C4F9SO3H erhalten; analog kann 3 höher substituiert werden. Die CF3S-Gruppe wird durch H2O2 in Eisessig zur CF3SO2-Gruppe oxidiert. Durch Fluor-Chlor-Austausch lassen sich CF3S-in CCl3S-Thiophenderivate (1f und 11) umwandeln. 1H-NMR-und 19F-NMR-Spektren werden angegeben.

N-(Chlorofluoromethylmercapto)adenineAdenine reacts with Cl3-nFnCSCl (n = 1,2,3) in the presence of pyridine, which serves as an HCl acceptor, to give the N6-monosubstituted (chlorofluoromethylmercapto)adenine. Attempts to prepare the corresponding trichloromethylmercapto derivative failed. The structures of the new compounds have been determined by spectroscopic methods.
    Notes: Adenin reagiert mit Cl3-nFnCSCl(n = 1,2,3) in Pyridin als HCl-Fänger zum monosubstituierten N6-(Chlorfluormethylmercapto)adenin. Versuche, ein entsprechendes Trichlormethyl-mercapto-Derivat herzustellen, scheiterten. Die Konstitutionen der neuen Verbindungen werden spektroskopisch belegt.
