Abstract Three patients are described who presented with progressive bone pain and tenderness and a proximal myopathy shown to be due to osteomalacia. Biochemical investigation in all three showed a marked hypophosphatemia with normocalcemia. Marked improvement resulted from vitamin D and phosphate therapy. These patients were found to have vascular tumors of bone or soft tissue of a type described as hemangiopericytomas. The association of these tumors with osteomalacia is well documented. Treatment of this form of osteomalacia must involve search for and removal of the tumor if posible.
