Intramolecular Thiophilic Substitution on Allyl SulfenatesThe sulfoxides 8a, b and 13a, b possess a mechanism for self-destruction: As soon as a [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement to the sulfenates 14a, b and 17a, b, respectively, occurs, which is otherwise reversible, a rapid cleavage of the molecule ensues by intramolecular thiophilic substitution liberating allyl alcohol.

Die Sulfoxide 8a, b und 13a, b besitzen einen „eingebauten“ Mechanismus zur Selbstzerstörung: Sobald eine an sich reversible [2,3]-sigmatrope Umlagerung zu den Sulfensäureestern 14a, b bzw. 17a, b eintritt, folgt eine rasche Spaltung des Moleküls durch intramolekulare thiophile Substitution unter Freisetzung von Allylalkohol.
