Description / Table of Contents:
Two fluorine atoms in 1,3,5-trifluoro-2,4,6-tricyanobenzene (2) are substituted easily by N,N-diphenylhydrazine.1,3-Bis(N',N'-diphenylhydrazino)-5-fluoro-2,4,6-∼icyanobenzene (4) is formed which is identical with a compound formerly described as a product of threefold substitution]). All three fluorine atoms can be substituted to give 1,3,5-tris(N',N'-diphenyl- hydrazino)-2,4,6-tricyanobenzene (8) only on prolonged reaction in presence of triethylamine. In4 and the analogous chlorine compound3 the halogen atom can be substituted by alkyl- or arylthiolate ions. Oxidation of the hydrazine derivatives with PbOz affords the bishydrazyls 10-13 and the trishydrazyl 9. The chemical and spectroscopical properties of these stable free radicals are described. A quantitative assay for hydrazyls has been worked out in which diethyl I, 4-dihydro-3,5-lutidinedicarboxylate is used as reducing agent. The rates of reaction of differently substituted 1,4-dihydropyridine compounds with various hydrazyls have been compared.
Notes:
