The mass spectra of some amino acids have been studied using the field desorption method. All amino acids yield molecular or quasi-molecular ions, even in the case of arginine and cystine, where these ions cannot be detected with the electron-impact (EI) or chemical ionization (CI) methods. The fragmentation is reduced as compared to EI, CI and FI.
