Notes: [Auszug] IN earlier publications, it has been shown that when dried vernalized unsplit seeds of mustard T. 27 are stored at room temperature for 836 days, or subjected to 30° ± 2° C. for 39 days, no de vernalization takes place. Furthermore, from a series of monthly sowings extending over a period of ...

Notes: Summary The exchange of Co(NH3)6]3+-ions on amberlite IRC-50 resin has been studied at room temperature. For this exchange process the cations are effective in the order: Cs+〈Rb+〈K+〈Na+〈Li+〈NH4 +〈Mg2+ 〈Ca2+〈H+ and (C2H5)4N〈(CH3)4N+ ≪Cetyltrimethylammonium-ion 〈Cetylpyridinium-ion. The logarithm of the selectivity coefficient gives linear graphs when plotted against the radius of the hydrated ions or the reciprocals of theDebye-Hückel parameterå.

Notes: [Auszug] IN contrast to vernalized wheat and rye, vernalized unsplit mustard seed does not become devernalized under high temperature1. Experiments were undertaken with mustard T.102 to find out whether (i) embryos excised from dried vernalized unsplit seeds would produce vernalized ...

Notes: [Auszug] So we have searched for the effects of these bursts on the VLF propagation characteristics in the D-region of the ionosphere; a technique5,6 which earlier proved successful for the detection of X rays ( 1?10 keV) from sources such as Sco X-l. In short, the method consists of measuring the field ...

Notes: Summary Cation exchange studies have been carried out between Mg-saturated bentonite and vermiculite and a number of monovalent electrolytes. According to the distribution and selectivity coefficients the cations are preferred in the order: Li ⪋ Na〈K〈NH4〈Rb〈Cs〈H〈(CH3)4N ⪋ (C2H5)4N for betonite and Li 〈 Na 〈 NH4 〈 K 〈 Rb 〈 Cs 〈 H and (C2H5)4N 〈 (CH3)4N for vermiculite. The selectivity coefficient of H+ is found to be much greater than other inorganic ions. TheΔG-values of the cation exchange reaction have been calculated by an equation ofBarrer. The experimental data were analyzed by the theoretical approach ofPauley too.

Notes: Summary The cation exchange data of tris ethylene diamine cobaltic ion on H-vermiculite fit in with theLangmuir equation. The exchange of [Coen3]3+ by different cations are in the order: Li 〈 Na 〈 NH4 〈 K 〈 Rb 〈 H 〈 Cs for the monovalent, Mg≤ Ca 〈 Ba for the bivalent and (C2H5)4N 〈 (CH3)4N ≪ CTA 〈 CP for monovalent organic ions. Quaternary cations such as (C2H5)4N+ exchange less than (CH3)4N+. This may be ascribed to the larger size of the former and also to the limitedc-axis expansion of vermiculite. By use of the equation ofKielland, thermodynamic equilibrium constants and standardGibbs free energy change have been evaluated. The plots of log (selectivity coefficient) vs. hydrated ionic radius and the reciprocal of theDebye Hückel parametera 0, suggest that the parametera 0 rather than the hydrated ionic radius may be found to correlate with the relative affinities of univalent cations for the vermiculite surface.
