Notes: Abstract Deuteron scattering experiments were performed at the Erlangen Tandem Van de Graaff accelerator using a counter telescop with surface barrier detectors in conjunction with a PDP 7 on line computer. Elastic and inelastic differential cross sections were obtained from deuteron scattering from25Mg and27Al at excitation energies up to 3.4 MeV. Bombarding energy was 10.1 MeV. Angular distributions and integrated cross sections are discussed using collective models. It is shown, that the levels of25Mg can be well described by the rotational model (strong coupling model). The results for27Al allow a good description by the core excitation model (weak coupling model).

Notes: Abstract For the reaction40Ca(d,α)38K differential cross sections for the excitation of the low lying states in38K have been measured at bombarding energies between 5 and 10 MeV. Total cross sections have been calculated using the statistical theory. It was found, that in the whole energy region the isotropic background of the angular distributions gives a good estimation of the compound contribution to the reaction cross section.

Notes: Abstract Differential cross sections for 10 MeV deuterons, elastically scattered from24,26Mg and28,30Si have been measured. The scattering data have been analysed systematically in the framework of the optical model. It was found, that an uniform set of parameters, which is able to reproduce reasonably the angular distributions for the four nuclei, does not exist. Both the Mg distributions as well as both the Si distributions, however, can be described well with one set of parameters, respectively.

Notes: Abstract The elastic and inelastic α-scattering cross section has been measured for the nuclei26Mg,28,30Si at 15 bombarding energies between 15.0 and 16.4 MeV. The energy averaged scattering cross sections can be described by an incoherent sum of contributions from direct and compound reactions. The direct reaction part has been calculated by the optical model or DWBA, the compound reaction part by a simple Hauser-Feshbach formula. From the analyses deformation parameters and spin cut-off parameters are obtained.

Notes: Abstract A very sensitive microphone suitable for acoustic measurements in liquid helium is described. With the use of it both, the pressure amplitude of second sound and the amplitude of first sound radiated from the second sound transmitter (carbon layer heater) can be detected. By a special extension of the reciprocity theory the first sound pressure response of the microphone and the second sound transmitter response can be measured. The measured pressure signals of first and second sound are compared with the results of the two-fluid theory.

Notes: Summary Diazoacetylcholinebromide was used for affinity labelling of the cholinergic receptors of endplates in the mouse diaphragm. Under irradiation by light (Hg-high-pressure-lamp), irreversible depolarizing block of neuromuscular transmission developed. Acetylcholinesterase was influenced only by much higher concentrations, which demonstrates different localizations of the active enzyme center and the cholinergic receptor.

Notes: Abstract The acute oral toxioity of 2-chloroethyl isocyanate (CAIC) is 396 mg/kg for male rats and 630 mg/kg for female mice. The extremely small quantity of 5 μl CAIC caused severe irritation in the eyes of rabbits, particularly of the conjunctiva. The skin was also affected considerably. Inhalation experiments, involving a new version of a proven method for generating air-vapour mixtures, produced no evidence of systemic toxicity, but let CAIC be classified as an irritant vapour to the respiratory tract. The LC50 for rats is 6.3 ppm after exposure for 6 h, while rats in two experiments involving ten-day exposures to vapour concentrations of 3.1 and 3.8 ppm, respectively, survived. After a fortnight's withdrawal following each experiment, histological examinations showed tracheobronchitis and bronchopneumonia but no pathological change in any other organ examined. A threshold limit value (TLV) of 0.02 ppm is suggested.
