Notes: Summary Within a short period of time, we observed 6 cases with the appearance of calcium oxalate crystals in the renal tubuli and in the walls of cerebral arterioles. Reviewing the case histories showed that all of these patients had received large doses of xylitol and had shown subsequently disorders of consciousness. A possible deposition of oxalate crystals following high-dose-therapy with xylitol is discussed.

Notes: Summary The distribution pattern of desoxyribonuclease (DNase) activity1 in the urine of healthy subjects and xeroderma pigmentosum (X.p.) patients has been examined by micro disc electrophoresis. When incubated at pH 5.0, four distinct bands of DNase activity are shown in normal urine. In urine of X.p. patients a significant decrease of the second to fourth band can be observed. The change of the third band is extremely obvious. Further to the influence of native DNA, denaturated DNA and EDTA on the pattern of DNase activities were studied. The decrease of DNase activity in X. p. urine is not due to the presence of an inhibitor but is rather caused by lower enzyme concentrations.

Notes: Four pure hydroperoxides were evaluated as initiators for the polymerization of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) at 5°C. These materials were the meta and para isomers of mono- and dihydroperoxy-diisopropylbenzene. Results showed that the monohydroperoxides produced somewhat faster reactions than a control hydroperoxide, p-menthane hydroperoxide. Response to mercaptan level adjustments was good, providing polymer with a Mooney viscosity in the 50 to 60 range. The reaction rate with the dihydroperoxides was slower, but again provided polymer with a satisfactory viscosity. Basic physical property measurements on polymers prepared with the pure hydroperoxides or control hydroperoxides showed only minor differences. It is anticipated that these differences can be eliminated by small adjustments in the compound recipe.

Description / Table of Contents: The interaction of Na-DNS and actinomine in diluted aqueous NaCl solutions is investigated by means of small angle X-ray scattering. Ultrasonic degradation of high molecular DNS yielded particles of suitable length so that besides the cross section also the particle length could be determined. DNS solutions saturated with actinomine have been measured down to a DNS concentration of 0,045 g/100 ml. We observed an extension of the DNS fragments after interacting with actinomine by 18%. The amount of actinomine in the addition compound has been determined: As an average, 7.1 base pairs are combined with one actinomine molecule. Also a shell of counter and by ions surrounding the DNS particles has been found and its dimensions have been determined. From the pseudo cross section scattering curves the inner parts of the cross section scattering curves valid for infinitely long particles could be reconstructed as calculations proceeded.
