Notes:
Summary On the adult rat we made isologous transplants of cellular suspensions of stomach and intestine. It was demonstrated: 1. From these suspensions develop subcutaneous cysts, which possess the potency for the differentiation of histiotypical organs showing microscopically no difference to normal gastric and intestine mucosa. This differentiation starts immediately after dissection of the cysts. 2. Histochemically it was demonstrated that the enzymes examined are present in characteristic phases of differentiation. In totally differentiated mucosa of the transplant the same distribution of enzymes as in normal adult mucosa was observed. 3. The histochemical results allowed an earlier recognition of stomach or intestine mucosa. 4. In the host the original stomach and that of the transplant synchronically elaborated gastric acid under basic conditions and after stimulation.
