Abstract γ-γ-angular correlation functions are presented for cases where the splitting energy of the nuclear substates, ΔE, is large compared with the level width Γ. The functions are particularly applicable to correlation work, where separated hyperfine transitions are involved. Usually, they will be observed by Mössbauer techniques. Another field of application arises from application of low temperatures to long lived isomers or from reactions initiated by polarized particles. In general, these correlations exhibit large anisotropies. Also those correlations are accessible for which the usual correlation coefficientsF k (LL′ JJ′) are zero.
