Notes: Abstract— The distribution in brain of the polyamines spermidine and spermine is described in the rat, dog, sheep, rabbit and in man. The distribution pattern was about the same in all the species, spermidine concentration being highest in areas rich in white matter. The concentration of spermine was lower than that of spermidine and showed less variation from area to area. Rat brain polyamine content was the same in rats killed by decapitation as in those killed by rapid freezing in liquid nitrogen and was also unchanged up to 48 h after the death of the animal.

Notes: [Auszug] Cooper and Murchison2 question here how sporopollenin (which they seem to regard as a characteristic component of the exines of vascular land plants alone) may survive into the Pre-Cambrian when it is usually accepted that kerogen in old sediments is probably derived from more primitive sources. ...

Notes: [Auszug] Occurrences of microstructures from the Upper Onverwacht Swartkoppie Formation have been reported previously1?5. Here we provide the first description of microorganisms from the Kromberg and Theespruit Formations. The microstructures reported6?8from the succeeding Fig Tree Series (3.1 × 109 yr old) ...

Notes: Abstract Chemical extraction procedures have shown that sporopollenin is a major component of the ascospore wall of Neurospora crassa and Neurospora tetrasperma. The sporopollenin is about 12% total dryweight of ascospores, and is localised in the ribbed perispore layer. Radioactive β-carotene is efficiently incorporated into the sporopollenin, and it is suggested that carotenoids are the natural precursors that are polymerised in the perispore. However, three carotenoid-deficient mutants of N. crassa produced perispores of normal appearance and properties.
