Zusammenfassung Die Furchen- und Faltenbildungen des Eicylinders wurden in Serienschnitten mit graphischen Rekonstruktionen untersucht. Es ergab sich, daß die bisher als Anlage des Vorderdarmes aufgefaßte Querfurche im zylindrischen Entoderm nur die Grenzzone zwischen embryonalem und extraembryonalem Gebiet darstellt. Sie liegt vor der vorderen Darmbucht, die genau mit dem Erscheinen des ersten Somitenpaares (7 1/2–8 Tage) deutlich wird und sich sehr rasch vertieft.

Summary The formation of furrows and folds in the wall of the egg-cylinder was examined with the aid of serial sections and graphic reconstructions. It is concluded that the notch in the columnar entoderm does not represent the anlage of the fore-gut. The difference in morphology of the entoderm is merely a reflection of embryonic and extraembryonic areas. It is situated anteriorly to the fore-gut invagination which starts exactly with the appearance of the first somite (7 1/2–8 days). The pocket changes very rapidly into a deep pouch.
