Further Knowledge of Chlorophyll and Hemin, XXIII1). Meso-acetoxylation of the Geminimonoketone of Octaethyl-porphinDirect acetoxylation of octaethyl-geminiporphyrin-monoketone (1) with Pb(OAc)4 leads to the isomeric β-, γ- and δ-acetoxy derivatives 2, whose structures were elucidated by NMR. They could be hydrolysed to the corresponding β-, γ- and δ-hydroxy compounds of 1. The α-acetoxy isomer could not be isolated. The isomers 3γ and 3δ exist mainly in the isomeric oxophlorin form. 3γ in contrast to the known oxophlorins gave good NMR spectra in CDCl3. The isomer 3β exists solely in the meso-hydroxy form, stabilised through a strong intramolecular hydrogen bond with the adjacent peripheral keto group. The meso-acetoxylation of the zinc(II) complex of 1 leads with 30 per cent yield exclusively to 2β.
Notes:
