Notes: Summary The infective stage of the oesophageal tumour worm of dog: Spirocerca lupi (Rudolphi, 1809, Spirurinae: Spiruridae) was encountered during examination of four of the fourteen species of the dung-beetles. The larval form has been described and its experimental infection studied in two rabbits in which there was not only reencystment in the gastric wall but some of the juveniles, entering the aorta, had caused the development of typical lesion of aortic “spirocercosis”. The aortic specimens included pre-adults and an adult female. This finding of the fourth and the fifth stage juveniles including a mature female is of particular interest as it has confirmed the earlier observations, from this Department, on the recovery of the juveniles of S. lupi from the bulbous aorta of the equine, the caprine and bubaline hosts. These specimens were, however, much smaller in size than those found in the normal definitive host and those known from the abnormal hosts reported. The histopathology of the various lesions has also been described.

Notes: Summary The metacercaria of Opisthorchis caninus, collected from the musculature of Ophiocephalus punctatus and Cirrhina mrigala, has been described from its encysted and excysted forms and its development in guinea pigs studied.

Notes: Summary Viviparus bengalensis race mandiensis evidently is the second intermediate host of Echinoparyphium flexum. This important echinostome species, in spite of the wide prevalence of its metacercariae in this area, does not seem to have been reported from any of the birds — domestic and wild. The present finding indicates that a search for the adults of this species might reveal its incidence. Relevant previous work in connection with the forms herein dealt with including their adults has been referred to.
