The compounds of the type MeICuS4 (with MeI = NH4+, K+, Rb+, and Cs+) are no true tetrathiocuprates(I) but metal(I)-copper(I)-tetrasulfides, as shown by X-ray data and by infrared and visible light spectra. The existence of corresponding metal(II)-copper(I)-tetrasulfides seems to be doubtful.It was shown by hydrolysis and thermal decomposition of NH4CuS4 that CuSX compounds with x ≥ 1 are in fact mixtures of CuS and sulfur.

Mit Hilfe röntgenographischer Methoden und unter Verwendung von Spektren im infraroten und sichtbaren Bereich wurde nachgewiesen, daß die Verbindungen vom Typ MeICuS4 (mit MeI = NH4+, K+, Rb+ und Cs+) keine echten Tetrathiocuprate(I) sind, sondern Metall(I)-Kupfer(I)-tetrasulfide darstellen. - Die Existenz der entsprechenden Metall(II)-Kupfer(I)-tetrasulfide wird in Frage gestellt.Die hydrolytischen und thermischen Zersetzungen von NH4CuS4 ergaben, daß die in der Literatur beschriebenen Verbindungen vom Typ CuS≥1 Mischungen aus CuS und Schwefel sind.
